Martin Scorsese is honored with the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020

Legendary and critically acclaimed film director Martin Scorsese, previously awarded with both an Oscar statuette and a Palme d'Or, is honored with the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 together with the world's heaviest film prize The Bronze Horse at Stockholm International Film Festival. Martin Scorsese will accept The Bronze Horse and participate in an exclusive Face2Face live on Zoom, broadcast from Skandia Theatre, November 13th.

The recipient of Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 is Martin Scorsese, with the following motivation:

Martin Scorsese and his films have opened new worlds to us, worlds we didn’t know existed. They have been eye-openers, which have widened our visions and touched our hearts. To quote the main character in The Color of Money: ”You gotta have two things to win. You gotta have brains and you gotta have balls.” Mind and courage are benchmarks that always have ennobled his cinematic work. It is our great pleasure to present the doyen of contemporary cinema, Martin Scorsese, with Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020.

– Martin Scorsese is one of the big giants in film history. His timeless life's works are as many as the prizes and awards that he deservedly has been awarded through the years. It's the greatest of honor for me and the festival to award Mr. Scorsese with the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2020, says Git Scheynius, Festival Director at Stockholm International Film Festival.

The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a person active in film whose life's work deserves to be illuminated and honored. The prestigious prize, the 7.3 kilogram Bronshästen (Bronze Horse) – the world's heaviest film prize – is a paraphrase of the Swedish Dalecarlian horse and was created by Swedish designer Fredrik Swärd. The prize has previously been awarded greats names within the film industry such as Claire Denis, Susan Sarandon, David Cronenberg, Lauren Bacall, David Lynch, Mike Leigh, Francis Ford Coppola and Isabella Rossellini.
