Nikon Short Film Award 2025: Jury Announced

The Nikon Short Film Award was established in 2022 to encourage filmmakers across Europe to harness their creativity and imagination to create the best possible short film—within a maximum duration of 60 seconds. Last year, with over 200 entries submitted, Noah Ragert won the award with his short film The Final Countdown.

We are now proud to announce the jury for the Nikon Short Film Award 2025. Returning as jury president is internationally acclaimed director Daniél Espinosa, whose TV series The Helicopter Heist had its world premiere at the 2024 edition of the festival. This year, Espinosa is joined on the jury by two of Sweden’s most celebrated actors: Nanna Blondell (House of the Dragon, Black Widow) and Sofia Kappel (Pleasure).

'It is both an honor and a great pleasure to once again lead the jury for the Nikon Short Film Award. We are truly excited to review this year’s submissions and see how Europe’s filmmakers take on the challenge of telling a complete story in just 60 seconds,' says Daniél Espinosa, jury president.

The winning entry will be screened at the Stockholm International Film Festival. The winner will receive an exclusive Nikon camera and a lens of their choice. In addition, the prize includes a unique work of art—a handcrafted glass sculpture created by glass artist Erika Kristofersson Bredberg, in collaboration with Designtorget.

'Now in its 4th year, the Nikon Short Film Award has grown from fledgling prize to significant prestige in the filmmaking industry. It is an honour, year after year, to play a small part in the future of these young filmmakers’ careers, and to do that as part of our broader partnership with the Stockholm International Film Festival. It is a testament to Nikon and the Stockholm International Film Festival team absolutely being “better together”!’, says Julian Harvie, Marketing Director, Nikon Northern Europe.

This year’s theme: Better Together
Under the theme Better Together, we encourage filmmakers to explore the power of connection, collaboration, and human relationships—in contrast to isolation, conflict, or loneliness. How do we become stronger together? What moments, big or small, show that we function better when united?

Submissions are open until October 21 and should be sent to submission@stockholmfilmfestival.se.
