Norwegian director Joachim Trier to receive the Stockholm Visionary Award 2021

The multiple award-winning director Joachim Trier is awarded the Stockholm Visionary Award 2021 at the Stockholm International Film Festival. The Norwegian Master now shares the record of having received three Bronze Horses at the Festival with Quentin Tarantino. Trier will accept the Bronze Horse during the Swedish premiere of The Worst Person in the World Thursday, November 11.

This year’s Stockholm Visionary Award is presented to Joachim Trier with the following motivation:
This year's recipient of the Stockholm Visionary Award 2021 is a Nordic visionary who manages to portray modern times with crystal clear precision and insight. He is the new generation's cross-genre voice and impressively depicts close relationships in a relatable manner. With the Oslo trilogy, he shows his ability as a cinematic architect and skillfully manages to stage the human interior in his modern classics. It is a great honor to present this year's Stockholm Visionary Award to Joachim Trier, a brilliant Nordic visionary.

I have a special relationship with the Stockholm Film Festival. I have received two Bronze Horses before, and they have been unique experiences in my career. I have always felt much love from the Stockholm audience, which feels extra honoring to me as a Norwegian. The list of previous recipients of the Stockholm Visionary Award is very impressive and it’s a true honor to be a part of that list, says Joachim Trier.

Joachim Trier is rounding out his Oslo trilogy with The Worst Person in the World, after the two successes Reprise and Oslo, August 31st. In the film, we are thrown into Julie’s life just before her thirtieth birthday and the tumult around all the big life decisions that have to be made.

The award-winning director has previously received the Bronze Horse for ”Best Film” for Louder Than Bombs (2015) and Oslo, August 31st (2011). It is a great honor for the Stockholm International Film Festival to award Joachim Trier with his third Bronze Horse and the Stockholm Visionary Award 2021.

The Swedish premiere of The Worst Person in the World by Joachim Trier takes place at the Skandia Theatre on Thursday, November 11 at 6:00 pm. Joachim Trier will accept the Bronze Horse following the screening and will participate in a Face2Face conversation.

The Stockholm Visionary Award was established in 2004 and the Bronze Horse weighs 7.3 kilos. Previous winners of the Stockholm Visionary Award include Céline Sciamma, Roy Andersson, Wong Kar Wai, Jacques Audiard and Wes Andersson.
