Stockholm International Film Festival proudly presents Nikon Short Film Award 2024 winner: Joel Wiklund Ekman

The Nikon Short Film Award is the Stockholm Film Festival’s short film competition, in collaboration with Nikon. The competition is open to filmmakers from across Europe, and the requirement is making a film no longer than 60 seconds. This year's winner was picked from a little more than 100 contributions. Director Joel Wiklund Ekman is awarded the prize for his film Bovieran.

The jury’s motivation reads:
"In an exceptionally short time, Joel Wiklund Ekman manages to create a concise, elegantly composed, and choreographed satirical story, addressing a larger issue in a small format. We are struck by the darkness within this bright framing."

“I feel incredibly honored to receive this award from such a distinguished jury. I had the privilege of working with an amazing actor and crew on this film, so I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of them. Our ambition was to raise questions about today’s society and the ways we differ from each other, which we managed to achieve thanks to Nikon and the Stockholm International Film Festival,” says Joel Wiklund Ekman.

The official jury for the competition included internationally acclaimed Swedish director Daniel Espinosa, currently making waves with the series Helikopterrånet, along with actresses Alva Bratt and Nina Zanjani.Anyone could participate in the World's Shortest Short Film Prize. The only requirement was that the film should be no longer than 60 seconds and contain all the elements typically found in a feature film.

The prize includes an exclusive Nikon camera and a lens of the winner’s choice. In addition, the winner is awarded the world’s heaviest film prize – a nine-kilo hand-made glass sculpture by artist Markus Åkesson from Kosta Boda.
