Stockholm International Film Festival proudly presents the winner of the Nikon Short Film Award 2025: Karim Fakih

The Nikon Short Film Award is the Stockholm International Film Festivals short film competition in collaboration with Nikon. The competition is open to filmmakers from all over Europe, and submissions can be a maximum of 60 seconds long. Under this year's theme Better Together, over a hundred entries were submitted – and now the winner has been selected: Karim Fakih is awarded the prize for his film Dija.

This year’s theme, Better Together, encouraged filmmakers to explore the power of community, collaboration, and human connection – How do we become stronger together?

According to Karim Fakih’s Dija, there is community in the small interactions – a second-long moment between two strangers that means more than one might think.

“An effective and precise drama that manages to show how a small moment can change an entire sense of self,” says the jury.

Chair of the competition’s official jury is the internationally acclaimed Swedish director Daniel Espinosa, whose TV series The Helicopter Heist had its world premiere at the festival last year. Joining him on the jury are the celebrated Swedish actors Nanna Blondell (House of the Dragon, Black Widow) and Sofia Kappel (Pleasure).

The winning film Dija was screened during the awards ceremony at Bio Skandia. The prize consists of an exclusive Nikon ZR camera and accessories. In addition, the winner is awarded a unique, handmade glass sculpture by artist Erika Kristofersson Bredberg in collaboration with Designtorget.
