Stockholm International Film Festival summarizes the festival 2021

Stockholms International Film Festival 2021 came to an end yesterday. This year’s program presented 100 films where 32 of which were debuts. The festival's youngest director, 20-year-old Luàna Bajrami takes home two Aluminium Horses, which once again demonstrates that Stockholm International Film Festival is a platform for tomorrow’s filmmakers. At the same time, films from some of the strongest visionary voices of our time, such as Jaques Audiard, Céline Sciamma and Pablo Larraín have filled the theatre rooms and so the joy of film in Stockholm has burst through the November darkness.

The festival chose to highlight motherhood and had a breastfeeding breast as this year’s campaign image. Something that would show itself to evoke strong feelings and create a debate about the female body in public spaces.

This year’s Visionary Award recipient Joachim Trier received his third Bronze Horse at Skandia in Stockholm, thus matching the record in number of Bronze Horses with Quentin Tarantino.

I have a long and good relationship with Stockholm Film Festival, so to receive the Visionary Award was a great joy and honour. With the warm reception from the audience, the screening of “The Worst Person in the World” turned into a fantastic evening, says Joachim Trier.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Jane Campion held a digital Face2Face during the premiere of The Power of the Dog and took part in the seminar the Female New Wave where she highlighted the Stockholms Film Festival's work for equality through the years.

– I want to recognize the Stockholm Film Festival for all the work they have done over the years in supporting and noticing the disparity of attention that female filmmakers haven’t had. I feel that it’s a great year to celebrate a massive change and I can’t help but think that Stockholm Film Festival is part of that. It really does make a big difference
, says Jane Campion at the Female New Wave seminar at the Stockholm Film Festival.

The film Industry poured in at the Stockholm Industry Days popular program, which was visited by the masters Cary Joji Fukunaga and Joachim Trier, who held masterclasses in Stockholm. The immensely popular and important topic about the vision in Swedish film was discussed again and it became one of the most popular events this year.

The winning film Rhino by Oleg Sentsov was screened both in theatres and on the festival’s digital platform Festival on Demand. At the screening of the closing film Belfast, there were cheers and applauses when Kenneth Branagh received his Bronze Horse at Skandia’s big stage. The same film won the honorable Audience Award at Stockholms Film Festival.
