The stars of tomorrow – SkyShowtime Rising Star Award 2024 nominees
For the sixteenth year in a row, the Stockholm International Film Festival celebrates new talents in film and TV through the SkyShowtime Rising Star Award. This year, six young Swedish actors are nominated for the prestigious prize. The winner, who will be announced at the festival’s award ceremony on November 15, will be rewarded with an exclusive trip to the Cannes Film Festival in May 2025.
Once again, it's time for a new star to rise in the field of film and television. The jury has carefully reviewed the country’s films and TV series to find the most impressive performances on screen. The result? An intense competition for the crown among Sweden's acting talents – the winner will be crowned at the festival's grand award ceremony.
This year's nominees are:
• Erik Sverdberg-Zelman
• Felicia Maxime
• Inez Micaella
• Isac Calmroth
• Olle Strand
• Rebecca Louvisa Plymholt
"It has been challenging and inspiring to select the nominees for this year’s Rising Star. Being able to honor and highlight new talents is a great privilege. I believe we have found a group of truly talented actors. I’m excited to see all the nominees' future performances," says Nanna Blondell, actor and one of the jury members.
The nominees are selected by an experienced expert jury consisting of chairman Simon Norrthon (Fackförbundet Scen & Film), Lisa Rosengren Lagercrantz (Film & TV producers), and Jan Göransson (Swedish Film Institute). This year’s jury also includes actors Nanna Blondell (House of the Dragon, Concordia) and Henrik Norlén (In Your Hands, Midsommar).
New this year is that the festival audience can also help choose the winner. They can vote for the nominee they believe shines the brightest.
‘We are delighted to be supporting the Stockholm International Film Festival for the second year running to uncover the very best up-and-coming Swedish talent. The calibre of this year’s nominees for the SkyShowtime Rising Star Award is incredibly impressive and we are honoured to partner with the festival to celebrate and nurture the future of our industry", says Fredrik Ljungberg, Regional Content Director for Northern Europe at SkyShowtime.
Previous winners of the SkyShowtime Rising Star Award include Alicia Vikander (2010), Adam Lundgren (2013), Julia Ragnarsson (2014), Gustav Lindh (2017), Alba August (2018), Edvin Ryding (2021), and Hanna Ardéhn (2023).
