Thousands of film lovers in search of Secret Location Screenings in Stockholm

Stockholm International Film Festival continues to deliver a strong combo of great film screenings and awesome experiences. The Secret Location Screenings concept, which started on August 13th with an exclusive screening in Sweden’s first nuclear reactor, will run continuously until the main film festival event in November. Clues about additional screenings in highly unconventional, and for the time being secret, locations around the capital city of Stockholm have been scattered all across the festival’s social media platforms, engaging nearly 37 000 film lovers thus far.

The first Secret Location Screening, Stanley Kubrick’s epic science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey, was arranged in Sweden’s first nuclear reactor, R1, 25 meters below the surface. The reactor hall, located at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, was active from 1954 to 1970. Due to a maximum capacity limit of 50 seated guests, current COVID-19 regulation in Sweden, the tickets were sold out in less than 40 seconds.

– We want film lovers to be able to enjoy great films even in the midst of the pandemic. We are currently breaking new grounds, striving to be as creative as possible despite our adjustment to current Swedish COVID-19 regulations which lowers our capacity limit to 50 guests. It is a challenge, but the Secret Location Screenings concept is our way of maximizing the cinema experience in a creative, exciting and safe way, says Git Scheynius, Festival Director
