Visitor record at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre in 2014

1.4 million people visited the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre’s fairs, meetings, corporate events, hotels and shows in 2014. That’s an increase by 11 per cent compared to 2013, and the highest visitor number since 2005.

As a step towards the goal of becoming Europe’s most attractive venue with everything under one roof, the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre has invested in the construction of a third hotel tower with 450 rooms, a modern show arena of international standards, and the Upper House – a five-star concept with 49 rooms, one suite, upscale restaurant, spa and relaxation zone, built upon the second hotel tower. Gothia Towers, the hotel and part of the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre, can now offer 1.200 rooms in the heart of Gothenburg city.

The result is a dynamic meeting point and a rapid growth of visitors, many of them international, as well as many new business opportunities. Euro Attractions Show, with 8.000 participants, and Euroskills 2016 are two examples of international meetings that will be arranged at the venue in 2015 and 2016.

47 fairs and exhibitions were held at the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre during the past year, including own and those organized by other event organizers. The number of exhibitors was altogether 6.276. The importance of meeting face to face is growing in the digital age, where the meeting place plays a significant role in getting new business contacts, closing deals and discussing industry trends.

With increased hotel capacity and a strong fair and exhibition program for 2015, Carin Kindbom, President and CEO of the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre Group, believes it’s possible to attract a couple of hundred thousand more visitors in 2015, and thereby set a new record. The close collaboration with Gothenburg City, the academia and the local industry will be developed further in 2015 to attract more international meetings to the city, and to position Gothenburg as one of Europe’s most attractive meeting destinations.
