Ung Svensk Form 2017 – nominees and scholarships

Ung Svensk Form 2017 – the Swedish yearly award for young designers. Meet our twenty finalists and the lucky ones who will receive grants from IKEA and Stiftelsen för Garverinäringens Främjande (the industry organization for Swedish tanneries) and Kvadrat. The Ung Svensk Form exhibition will be inaugurated today, on the 7th of February, at 10 am in Greenhouse at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

– Many of this year’s entrants in Young Swedish Design have been around, braced themselves against reality, taken aim at everything that can be improved in this world. Excellent! We see this on the high level of concept, with well-founded analyses and clearly illustrated problems, says Marcus Engman Design Manager at IKEA and member of the Ung Svensk Form jury.

– I’m proud that we have received so many applications from design schools all around the country. We received a total of 400 submissions, with high quality content. I look forward to both the inauguration and the future with Ung Svensk Form 2017, says Karin Wiberg, Project Manager Ung Svensk Form.

Ung Svensk Form scholars 2017
IKEA will bestow one residential work-scholarship with full pay during five months in Älmhult at IKEA of Sweden. This year’s scholar is Tessa Geuze, Identity of Things.

Kvadrat will grant one scholar to Sophie Hardy and her Breaking the Surface. She will receive 5000 SEK, material to a value of 5000 SEK and an exhibition at Kvadrat’s showroom in Stockholm.

Stiftelsen för Garverinäringens Främjande will grant three scholars with 30 000 SEK. This years scholars are Caroline Hultqvist, Utan Titel, Elias Högberg, A Border Between and Peter Herrmann for the identity and package concept to Robert Rudinski’s hungarian fruit liqour.

– Today’s young generation of designers is vital if Swedish manufacturers of leather, suede, reindeer hides, and lamb and sheepskins are to meet both current and future demands and requirements on material qualities and production methods, says Anders Bengtsson chairman at Stiftelsen för Garverinäringens Främjande.
