Lost juveniles on track by veterans

A project in Halmstad, south Sweden, helped 15 youths to get their acts together. “91 Karlsson” as the project was called named by a popular Swedish comic strip, was a joint venture between a military school and the municipality of Halmstad.

-  We gave the youths a new chance, said Mr Bengt Wiktorsson, president of the Swedish Veterans Federation, addressing the Peace and Security Summit in Stockholm.

The youths were unemployed and not studying.

-  They had lost hope in life.

After three months of military training the odds were better.

-  Almost all were employed, some studying. They were back on the track, much thanks to outstanding veterans who had been their instructors and role models, Mr Wiktorsson said.

The Peace and Security Summit is run by The World Veterans Federation, organizing 42 millions veterans of war.
