EU-Commissioner Phil Hogan visits CLAAS

Digitalization and climate change were the main topics during the visit of Phil Hogan, EU-Commissioner for Agricultural and Rural Development, in Harsewinkel. CLAAS Group Executive Board member Thomas Boeck informed the politician, how CLAAS equips its machinery with intelligent electronic systems and software to make farming even more efficient.

“We are more and more focused on the digital connection of all operations both in the field and on the farm, without neglecting improvements of the single machine in the process”, says Thomas Boeck, responsible for the CLAAS Division of Technology and Systems. “All the data that is generated during that process generally belong to the farmer. Only he decides, to whom he wants to provide this data for further use.”

The EU-Commissioner also showed great interest in a Europe-wide initiative of agricultural machinery producers, universities and associations that aims to drastically reduce carbon-dioxide emissions within the following years. Emissions of particulate matter and nitrogen oxide have already been cut down by 90 percent since 2002.

The official welcome at the Technoparc, in which Helmut Claas also participated, was followed by a factory tour as well as a long constructive discussion.
