TCS continues partnership with Finnish Wheelchair Curling

Helsinki |December 20th, 2015: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) the leading IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, continues its partnership with the Finnish Wheelchair Curling Team ahead of the forthcoming World Championship in Lucerne, Switzerland in February 2016.

The sponsorship now in its third year has witnessed the team’s qualification in 2014 for the Sochi Paralympic Games, and a bronze medal win for the team at their first World Championship in Lohja, Finland in 2015.

“We are delighted to see TCS continuing as our main sponsor after excellent co-operation during the winter Paralympic Games in Sochi and our medal qualification at the last World Championship,” said Team captain of the Finnish Wheelchair Curling team, Markku Karjalainen.

Newly appointed country manager to TCS Finland, Anil Joshi said: “Our position as lead sponsor to the Finnish Wheelchair Curling team reflects TCS’s commitment to supporting health and wellness. Under Markku’s assured captaincy, we have witnessed the development of a remarkable team that has gone from strength to strength and looks well positioned to build on last year’s success for 2016.”

Mr Karjalainen, a TCS employee himself since 2013 has actively pursued sports from skiing and kayaking to hand cycling after the parachuting accident which left him paraplegic at the age of 22. His captaincy of the Finnish wheelchair team has witnessed their transformation into a world-class contender.

Speaking about the forthcoming championship, Mr Karjalainen said: “Our team has been in consistent training now ahead of the championship with the target of remaining in the tournament’s A-series. We anticipate tough competition from China and Russia but a lot depends on the conditions of the day. We remain positive ahead of the event and thank TCS for their continued support.”
