Thomas Concrete Inc. supplies concrete for major construction project in South Carolina U.S.

Thomas Concrete Inc. in the United States has supplied 21,350 cubic yards of low-carbon concrete for the construction of a large distribution center in Florence, South Carolina. The building covers more than 35,800 square meters and the project was carried out under a demanding schedule with multiple contractors involved.

The construction of the Florence Distribution Center was executed using an impressive time-critical setup where several contractors worked in parallel.

To ensure a continuous supply of concrete, the deliveries were carried out with support from three of Thomas Concrete’s divisions – Upstate, Charlotte, and Charleston. Two on-site concrete plants in Florence were also available, securing the required capacity and flexibility. This proved essential to keep the project on schedule.

“Collaboration, innovation and careful planning have gone hand in hand to meet one of the most demanding schedules on the market,” says Chad Dyson, Area Sales Manager at Thomas Concrete in the United States.

The delivery consisted of Thomagreen, Thomas Concrete’s low-carbon concrete with a reduced carbon footprint. Since each contractor had its own special concrete mixes as well as project-specific technical requirements, detailed coordination of production and logistics was required. In addition, special solutions were needed for material handling and temperature control during casting, which took place under extreme summer and winter conditions.

Concrete work at the Florence Distribution Center was completed during the autumn, and the facility was handed over to the client Cheney Brothers by the end of december last year.
