Twingly.com public launch with new services for bloggers
Two months after the release of the closed beta version, the new European spam-free blog search engine Twingly.com is now launched with new functionality. Hundreds of bloggers have already written about the service and thousands have participated in the beta testing. Twingly now challenges Google Blog Search on the European market.
Twingly.com covers blogs all over the world but concentrates on being number one in Europe, both regarding spam control and working with several different languages.
The new blog search engine gives bloggers an opportunity to use so called widgets. The long term business strategy of Twingly is to share all the functionality within the blog search engine, so it can be implemented in blogs.
"Good relations to the bloggers is vital for our business model," said Martin Källström, CEO of Twingly. "Up to now, we have created traffic flows to bloggers from our media partners. With our new blog search engine we get a platform where we can share other things, in time advertising revenue could be a possibility."
"It feels great to be able to open up the service today," said Martin Källström. "Many of the features we have been working on, like the possibility to use Twingly in blogs, does not work when the site earlier demanded invitations from the users."
During the beta test phase, invited beta testers have been able to suggest functionality and also vote on which suggestions will be implemented first. 3500 people have participated in the test period.
"We owe a lot to our beta testers," said Martin Källström. "By being open with the development process many of our users are engaged in the service and we have been able to primarily develop what the users want or what the bloggers want to use in their own blogs."
The Twingly blog search engine is distinguished by providing a spam free index. Estimations show that as much as one half of the blog posts in the world are spam, something that makes traditional search among blog posts useless.
To create traffic and exposure for bloggers, Twingly has created partnerships with 50 large news sites during the last year, like Dagens Nyhter and IDG in Sweden, La Vanguardia in Spain, Público in Portugal, De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, Politiken in Denmark, Helsingin Sanomat in Finland and Dagbladet in Norway.
Furthermore, a new service for e-commerce web sites was launched recently, where web shops and bloggers can share traffic. First to go with the new service was the e-commerce web site of Lindex, one of the leading fashion chains in northern Europe.
Key functionality of the new Twingly.com:
- Spam free search. By being skeptic to bloggers that doesn't get links from guaranteed spam free blogs, a spam free index is created.
- Advanced search sorted by TwinglyRank.
- Social search. The users enhance the search results by clicking on posts they like. Bloggers enhance the search results by linking to posts they like.
- Subscribe to search results by RSS and alerts via email.
- Language functionality: Translation of search results and filtering based on language.
- Twingly widget platform. Parts of Twingly.com can be incorporated into blogs.
