INGMAR BERGMAN’S ”FANNY & ALEXANDER” ON TOUR TO ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST FESTIVALS

It is rare that a Swedish theatre institution is invited for a festival like Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá, Colombia. March 11-14, Uppsala City Theatre is presenting five performances of ”Fanny & Alexander.”

Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá runs from March 11-27. It is a window for international arts and culture and a strategy for peace and conflict resolution in Bogotá – one of the mega cities of the world.

”Fanny & Alexander” is directed by Linus Tunström. The production had its premiere on October 20 2012, and played for sold out houses thru the 2012/2013 Season.

”Fanny & Alexander” is offered at the following times during the festival:

  • Friday, March 11 at 8.30 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 12 at 3.30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 13 at 6.30 p.m.
  • Monday, March 14 at 8.30 p.m.

Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá runs every other year since 1988. The festival is founded by renowned Argentinian actress Fanny Mackey. The festival is a strategy for peace and conflict resolution in Bogotá and an expression of all forms of performing arts around the world. The first festival in 1988 was approached with hesitation and even acts of terror however the will to gather around a flourishing and developing community in the city prevailed. Nowadays, the festival attracts nearly 3 million people from around the world, who access close to 400 events offered by artists from 32 countries during 17 days.

From circus to mime, from drama and dance to experimental improvisation, the streets and marketplaces, theatres and auditoriums are filled with programming. At the same time as there is something for everyone to explore and experience, workshops and networking runs alongside the program to benefit visiting artists.

I am delighted to be able to bring "Fanny & Alexander" and the whole team to South America. It will be tremendously rewarding to encounter such an international audience, and to share this story about the magic of theatre and the importance of imagination. To visit one of the largest theatre festivals in the world, with this story, is both an adventure and an honor. Linus Tunström, Artistic director/CEO
