Last year’s winners defend their titles in Ultravasan 90 2026
Ultravasan 90 2026 ran under warm conditions, and last year’s winners Olle Meijer and Dominika Stelmach both brought impressive performances and defended their titles.
Interest in ultrarunning and Ultravasan continues to grow. A record-sized field set off in forefathers' tracks on Saturday morning. In total, nearly 8,000 people had registered for Trailvasan 30, Ultravasan 45, Ultravasan 90 and Vasastafetten. Ultravasan 90 also served as the Swedish Championships and Swedish Veteran Championships in trail running.
Ultravasan 90 Men
The temperature was just over 10 degrees Celsius with a lot of cloud cover when the runners lined up at the start in Berga by. After about 14 minutes of running, at the highest point of the course, three-time winner Olle Meijer of Hälle IF had opened up a six-second gap over the three chasing runners Noah Brautigam, Linus Rosdahl and Oscar Claesson.
When the leading men reached Smågan, there had been several changes. Olle Meijer was overtaken by Noah Brautigam of Falu IK, who now had a 16-second lead.
On the more technical section from Smågan to Mångsbodarna, Linus Rosdahl shifted into a higher gear and passed Brautigam. He had a 16-second lead when passing the checkpoint.
At the same time, Olle Meijer picked up the pace and at Risberg he was 10 seconds behind leader Linus Rosdahl. At Evertsberg, the roles had reversed once again, with Rosdahl in the lead and Brautigam 24 seconds behind.
After the halfway point, last year’s winner Olle Meijer began to make his move, and by Oxberg he had started to close the gap. At Hökberg, Meijer was back in the lead. He then extended his advantage over his rivals all the way to the finish.
Meijer thereby claimed his fourth consecutive victory in Ultravasan 90, with his fastest time to date, 06:03:17.
“Winning the Swedish Championship is a bit of a bonus; you almost forget that it’s the Swedish Championship. Once you take the lead, there’s so much focus on simply making it to the finish.”
“I’ve improved my time a little every year, so it’s fun to keep that trend going. Now it’s getting frustratingly close to six hours. It was actually much the same as last year: it didn’t feel great during the first half, and it took longer before I found a good rhythm,” a delighted Olle Meijer said after crossing the finish line.
Noah Brautigam put in an impressive debut performance and made his mark on the race early. He finished second.
“I didn’t really try to think too much about the result. It’s really just about getting from A to B as quickly as possible. There’s not much you can do about how the others run. I’m proud that I made it to the finish in a respectable way. With 25 kilometres to go, it didn’t feel like I was going to be able to do it,” said runner-up Noah Brautigam.
French Sébastien Spehler won Ultravasan 90 in 2021, and today he finished third.
Ultravasan 90 Women
Last year’s winner Dominika Stelmach set the pace from the start, and already at the highest point she had a 50-second lead over Hanna Aho of Navåsens FK and Ellinor Ericsson of IFK Mora FIK.
At Smågan, Polish Stelmach's lead was more than two and a half minutes. Behind her, a group of five women were running together.
At Mångsbodarna, there were still five chasing women, but the group then split up as they battled for second and third place.
Ellinor Ericsson increased the pace between Mångsbodarna and Risberg and pulled away from the rest of the chasing group. Behind her, Maria Saxvall of Borlänge Löparklubb moved into third place.
Halfway through, Stelmach continued to dominate Ultravasan 90 and showed no signs of slowing down. As the gap to second-placed Ellinor Ericsson grew, Ericsson in turn extended her advantage over Maria Saxvall.
After Oxberg, Anna Hellström, who was then in fifth place, began to pick up the pace. She passed Susanna Sjögren and began her pursuit of third-placed Maria Saxvall.
At Eldris, Poland’s Dominika Stelmach was 22 minutes ahead of second-placed Ellinor Ericsson. Behind the pair, Anna Hellström had passed Saxvall and moved into third place.
Dominika Stelmach finished second in 2023 and 2024 before taking her first Ultravasan victory in 2025. Today, she was completely dominant and claimed her second consecutive victory in the Nordic region’s biggest ultra race. Her winning time was 07:07:17.
“It was a tough race because of the humidity. But I’m very happy. I knew I could slow down during the final 17 km. I lowered my pace and enjoyed it,” Stelmach said after her second consecutive victory.
Stelmach did not have a support team along the course.
“Sometimes someone would tell me something about my lead. It would be better to have a support team, but it’s so much fun to run.”
Ellinor Ericsson of IFK Mora FIK took second place and became Swedish champion. Anna Hellström maintained her strong finish and crossed the line in third place.
Ultravasan 45 Men
Jesper Lundberg opened Ultravasan 45 at a furious pace and at the first split, after approximately seven and a half minutes, he had pulled ahead of the pack.
He continued at a high pace and at Hökberg he was ahead of the course-record pace set by Linus Rosdahl last year.
Lundberg tired slightly towards the end, but finished in 02:36:08, making for a dominant victory.
Behind him, two runners from Örebro battled for the remaining podium places. Jonas Algebad of Örebro AIK produced a strong finish and took second place. From Eldris to the finish, he made up 39 seconds on the winner. Simon Karlsson of Tisdagsklubben Örebro finished third.
Ultravasan 45 Women
Malin Starfelt did for the women what Jesper Lundberg did for the men. She left the rest of the field behind by the first split at Lillsjön.
At Oxberg, she had extended her lead over second-placed Jenny Björnberg of Falu IK Friidrott to 1 minute and 54 seconds.
Starfelt continued to maintain a high pace, and the gap behind her steadily grew all the way to the finish in Mora. She crossed the finish line as the winner of Ultravasan 45 in 03:01:28. Jenny Björnberg held on to second place, while Eva-Maj Erneby of Västerås FK finished third.
Trailvasan 30 Men
Trailvasan 30 featured several strong names on the men’s starting line. The race became a battle between an orienteer and a former cross-country skier.
Fast-running orienteer Emil Svensk was challenged by former World Cup cross-country skier Simon Andersson. At Hökberg, Svensk had managed to open a small four-second gap.
At Eldris, the gap had grown to 16 seconds. Emil Svensk finished strong and was first across the finish line in Mora, 35 seconds ahead of Simon Andersson.
Tobias Andervang of Borås Löparklubb finished third.
Trailvasan 30 Women
Lovisa Modig claimed her third consecutive victory in Trailvasan 30. She also smashed the course record set by herself last year. The previous record was 01:57:14; the new record is 01:54:51.
Sofie Nelson Rask of IF Göta Karlstad was unable to challenge Lovisa Modig, but had a comfortable margin over the rest of the field and finished second. She was 2 minutes and 34 seconds behind Modig.
Elin Brink, competing for Mölndals AIK, finished third.
