The barefoot movement comes to Sweden

On Tuesday April 5th, 2011 weʼre taking our shoes off together with thousands of others around the world to raise awareness that there are many children who donʼt have shoes. Weʼre choosing to go barefoot on Stureplan in Stockholm, Sweden tomorrow at 10 AM!

Did you know that most children in developing countries grow up without shoes? Did you know that some children walk for miles every day without shoes and are often not allowed to attend school without shoes? In Ethiopia alone, approximately 1 million people suffer from a debilitating illness called podoconiosis. Itʼs an illness that can be entirely preventable by wearing shoes.

One Day Without Shoes is a yearly manifestation started by TOMS Shoes where students, friends, parents, strangers and colleagues host or participate in events without shoes. Some walk without shoes for an hour, others an entire day but they all participate in a greater movement towards change.

We hope that you will take off your shoes and invest an hour to think about what single action that can make a differnece for your community. How can you contribute to a better world in 2011? Itʼs no great investment, but it can have great impact!
