Art Tips: Selecting the Right Height

What is an appropriate height to hang art?

When I bought my first piece of art, I couldn’t decide on how high I should place it. Eye level? How high is that exactly? I wasn’t sure.

Here’s a guideline.

You can hang it so that the center of the art is 56 to 60 inches from the floor.

Make sure that it isn’t too high otherwise you will be craning your necks to see it.

If you want to hang art over large furniture, this guideline doesn’t always apply. Go with your instincts then. It should be better than mine!

If you're hanging more then a piece to create a combination effect, place them on the floor so that you can visualise them first!

We wouldn't recommend hanging a single small piece. Small pieces look better with a few other small ones at roughly the same height.
Finally, when in doubt, try creating a paper template of the art and place it at the designated spot. This will give you a sense of space and height.
