Huayu Cool – Shuffle Bistro Bar Brings That to You!

“Huayu Cool” may just be another tagline from the annual Speak Mandarin Campaign for some but a few Chinese music buffs have heeded the Government’s call to actively make Mandarin cool. Shuffle, a new bistro and bar that has just opened its doors in bustling Clarke Quay is attempting to do just that!

Driven by a gap in the local scene for ‘Live’ acoustic Mandarin performances, Shuffle sets out to bridge the gap between quiet music cafes and loud cabaret clubs that we have in the market right now. Not to be confused with the popular dance movement, Shuffle offers a relaxing brand of entertainment with daily performances by talented local artistes showcasing the ‘cool’ side of Mandarin through their radio-friendly renditions of both popular Chinese and English songs from Jay Chou to Bruno Mars.

The name Shuffle is derived from the ‘shuffle’ function on most music players where users can jumble the songs on their playlist. This mixture of Chinese and English music is the bilingual performance that Shuffle brings, reflecting the multi-faceted interests of music listeners here as a result ofSingapore’s successful bilingual education system. Consumers should not be pigeon-holed into choosing either only English or Chinese music for their entertainment which is what is offered in most entertainment outlets in the market currently - Shuffle changes this.

Even though the programming is mostly in Mandarin, there is little to suggest that this is your conventional Chinese establishment. Those expecting a place playing Mandopop to fit the stigma of being an ‘uncool’ Chinese establishment will be pleasantly surprised by what Shuffle has to offer. The place is decidedly western with a local touch – its modern décor and fusion menu reflecting the vibrancy and bilingualism of our local Chinese community today.

Shuffle is a fully licensed bistro and bar serving up ice-cold imported beers like the popular Taiwanese Lychee beer and other delectable concoctions that go perfectly well with the music and interesting food offerings like the Spam & Carrot Cake.
