4 Commonly Used Decking in Singapore

Decking has become popular in Singapore today in both residential and commercial markets. Decking is able to give homeowners an area of alfresco living for a different feel under one roof. For commercial property owners, they are able to attract a certain level of customers due to the appearance of the shop. There are many decking options available in the market these days, so what are the 4 commonly used decking in Singapore?

1)  Eco Wood Composite Decking

Eco wood composite decking (WPC) is mainly made up of wood compound and plastic that give wood alike finishing. It is the same as conventional WPC except that the properties used in eco WPC are more environmentally friendly due its high content of recyclable wood flour and reconstituted fibers. WPC can also be bent to an ideal unique shape to satisfy the consumer’s preference of wood art. Eco WPC combines the beauty of wood and durable synthetic materials to create a robust decking material which is also splinter free.

2)  Conventional Wood Composite Decking

As most outdoor areas such as shopping mall need decking which helps beautify the area but and create large walking space for consumers. As WPC is relatively low maintenance compared to natural wood, commercial users will have an easier time maintaining a huge outdoor space of decking.

3)  Finished Wood Decking

Natural wood mostly underwent a pressure treatment process or Acetylation which is similar to pressure treatment except the process is entirely non chemical. This process is required to prevent termite, insect attack and fungal decays on your natural wood decking, hence, keeping your natural wood safe and clean. As it is natural wood, the probability of splinters is relatively higher compared to WPC.

4)  Natural Wood Decking

Different kinds of wood decking haves its pros and cons. Some have a pretty much striking colour for decking compared to other wood decking in the market. However the bright colour of the decking does not last long under sunlight. Under the sunlight for a period of time, the decking may show signs of leakage of saps from the wood which may cause discoloration. However, due to its durability, natual wood decking is usually used in heavy construction sites. Therefore, homeowners have to take note where they choose natural wood decking.

Above are the 4 commonly used decking in Singapore. After all, there are many contractors in the market, it is best for homeowners to understand the pros and cons of each decking & the credibility of the contractor before making a choice.
