6 Most Common Flooring in Singapore

There are many types of flooring in the market, so which flooring is suitable for tropical cities such as Singapore? Below are 6 different flooring options that are commonly used in Singapore.

1)  Laminate Flooring

One of the most popular flooring in Singapore for its numerous designs and patterns. Laminate flooring has a layer of photo paper which allows consumers to choose what they want their flooring to look like. Isn’t it cool? Though laminate flooring has met the wants of many people, it is not 100% waterproof so home owners have to take note of the cleaning methods for laminate flooring.

2)  High End Resilient Flooring (HERF)

HERF is a relatively new flooring product in Singapore. Since its launch in 2010 it has been well accepted by end users for its distinct features such as 100% waterproof and highly slip resistance not only that, it also stands up well to heavy human traffic. HERF has also different designs which are wood alike that some consumers might think it is real wood. HERF requires less maintenance after installation, just basic sweeping and mopping to keep the floor clean.

3)  Parquet

Many loves traditional flooring such as solid wood parquet for its classic wooden feel. As parquet is mostly made up of solid wood, it expands and contracts due to the changes of temperature so home owners need to take note especially for scratches and water but however consumers are still willing to lay parquet for its dramatic look and feel.

4)  Ceramic

Ceramic flooring is known for its durability and low maintenance. However when it comes to designs it will not be as much as other floorings, ceramic can also be cold to your feet. Glazed ceramic has a protective layer that shields your tiles from water and stain penetration thus it is the ideal flooring for kitchen and bathrooms. For unglazed ceramic, you will need to seal it in to protect the surface from liquid seeping in. Ceramic flooring is also easy to clean with most heavy duty washing product.

5)  Conventional Vinyl

One of the least expensive flooring and well populated among home owners for its great value for money. Vinyl sheet is also available in a wide range of designs and colours. Conventional flooring requires glue during installation and it has a thin wear layer where stability might not be as good as other types of flooring.

6)   Re-Engineered Wood (REW)

REW is similar to engineered wood but is at a more affordable price which makes it more cost effective for young couples with limited renovation budget and those who love natural wood as it warms your feet during cold weather and it also cools you feet during warm weather. REW does not accumulate dust mite as compared to parquet flooring and it is usually more stable and comes with a warranty from the manufacturer.

Now you have a understanding of what are the most commonly used flooring in Singapore, you can now have fun dressing up your floor. Do remember to check with your flooring contractor for the right quality flooring.
