6 Points to Take Note When Choosing a Good Quality Flooring

Choosing a good quality flooring can last the home owners for a relatively longer period of time. However, with the massive production of flooring brands covered with hype marketing and advertising messages today, home owners may or may not be able to enjoy the benefits of a good quality piece of flooring.

Henceforth, choosing good quality flooring is of utmost importance for the home owners. Here are the 6 points for the home owners to take note while doing their shopping.

1) Safe and Healthy

Always the first thing to check; some of the 'must have' for a good quality flooring is low in formaldehyde rating (E1 or E0 is preferred); the flooring product must have test reports to show no signs of substances of very high concern (SVHC) so that it would be safe especially for young children and elderly with lower immune system; have fire resistance and slip resistance qualities.

2) See the Real Thing

Visit the showroom to see and feel the flooring for yourself. Sometimes, pictures of a similar design can look or appear differently on websites or brochures due to lighting, 'photoshope' and the skills of the photographer.

3) User Friendly

A good quality flooring brand must be user friendly enough such that it is easy to maintain and to clean. Good quality flooring should have high level of water resistance so that can be applicable in many parts of the home including the wet humid areas such as your kitchen, basement and such. Home owners can therefore can have a hassle free kind of lifestyle with user friendly flooring.

4) Environment-Counsciously Produced

Today due to massive production of flooring products in the market, there might be some manufacturers who do not produce the products the right way which in turn may cause implications to the global environment. Hence do look for and support environmentally-councious flooring brands that are produced in a sustainably responsible manner. Some of the points to look at are, FSC (for natural wood resources) and other environment certifications standards obtained from your contractor.

5) Product Warranty Sources

Any company can give you any period of product warranty. Some may give you more than 10 years or even lifetime on the products and its installation. However, you may need to see beyond that. First, is the warranty backed by the product manufacturer or the flooring contractor and on what basis? Secondly, if the warranty is given by the flooring contractor, how financially strong is the company that is giving you the warranty? Should a claim on the warranty will to be executed on the product. says 5 years after the flooring is installed; will the contractor be still around to rectify the issue?

6) Credible Flooring Contractor

One important area when it comes to choosing a credible flooring contractor is to look at its installation team. Ask your flooring contractor whether are they using their in-house trained flooring installers or engaged contractors from other companies. Companies with in-house installation team will have the technical know-how in resolving on-site issues and are therefore relatively more responsible for the outcome of your flooring installation. Credible flooring companies also consistently sourced for good quality materials for its consumers so that quality assurance can therefore be taken care of.

In summary, especially when one is spoilt with many choices of flooring brands today that are 'camoflauged' by heavy doses of mass advertising; whenever it comes to choosing a good quality flooring product, always think long term in terms of user friendliness and cost saving, do relevant research and also trust yourself in your choices. (It's your choice afterall)
