Has Engineered Wood Flooring Become Popular Than Parquet Today?

Engineered wood flooring today has changed and opened up many opportunities for home owners to appreciate real wood at the comfort of the home. Before the introduction of engineered wood flooring, parquet has been popular in Singapore homes especially during the 90s and early 2000s; however today, people are beginning to accept and appreciate the benefits of engineered wood flooring instead.

Here are some reasons why:

Various Patterns and Colors of Wood

Traditional parquet usually available in uniform sizes and colors, it is either oak or teak in terms of wood species. However, with the advent of engineered wood flooring, home owners can install different patterns of wood laying such as timber strips (slightly larger than parquet), plank laying or even odd designs like Herringbone method.

Engineered wood flooring is a finished product that can be manufactured using different kinds of wood species. On one hand, you can choose to have common wood species such as oak or teak. Or you may also go for rare species such as Jatoba, Hevea, Doussie, Kempas, European Beech and many more.

Engineered wood flooring is easy to be stained in many colors that one could ever imagine. Hence to the home owner, they have a wide variety of choices to decorate their homes with.

Higher Stability and Durability

In terms of stability and durability, good quality engineered wood flooring has relatively better properties than that of traditional parquet. This is probably due to the overall structure of the engineered wood board which makes the entire flooring intact and strong to withstand expansion and contraction of the flooring. On top of that, engineered wood having a bigger surface of contact to the base flooring has better ‘balance” and stability as a result, comparing to parquet which has a smaller surface area per block.

Product Warranty

As mentioned earlier, engineered wood flooring products are most finished products manufactured and sold to worldwide distributors. Most credible engineered wood manufacturers will usually give a reasonable period of warranty on its products. This gives home owners a higher level of confidence on the products, understanding that the liability can be fully absorbed by the manufacturer or the flooring contractor if it happens.

Greener Eco Friendly Materials

Good quality engineered wood flooring usually is manufactured in a more greener and sustainable manufacturing process. BKB Engineered wood, one of the popular engineered wood flooring brands today, uses Hevea wood as the core layer. Hevea or rubber wood is produced from fast growing trees and has the ability to resist changes in the tropical climate due to its origin. BKB only manufactures and source wood timber from audited sustainable sources so as to ensure to continue growing cycle of forests worldwide. In this way, it adds goodwill to the product and most engineered wood flooring products that are produced in this way has obtained credible Eco labels such as FSC and PEFC labels.

What it means to the home owners or home designer is that, engineered wood not only gives them a wide variety of wood design to create for their homes, it also adds goodwill to their contribution to the Eco environment.

Last but not least, engineered wood flooring today is slowly becoming pretty popular than solid wood and traditional parquet as it gives people a more stable and more choices of real wood for their homes. However, it may still takes some time for more people to appreciate the beauty of engineered wood.
