K-C declares paper products sold in Singapore are from socially responsible sources

With the current focus on the haze in Singapore, the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) have published a list of firms who practice sustainable sourcing for their paper products.

All 10 firms in the list, including Kimberly-Clark, have declared that that they purchase or use wood, paper, or pulp materials from sustainable sources.

Kimberly-Clark does not procure wood pulp from Indonesia, and 100% of the company's wood pulp hails from certified sustainable sources*. In addition, over 80% of the firm's tissue products are made with Environmentally Preferred Fibre – defined as recycled, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified virgin and sustainable alternative fibres like bamboo and wheat straw. In 2012, Kimberly-Clark made a public commitment to halving its impact on natural forests by the year 2025 through increased research and commercialization of alternate fibre sources including FSC-certified plantation fibres.

In 2014, Kleenex in Singapore launched its “Big Changes start with Small Choices” campaign with an outdoor advertising and social media campaign to engage consumers on the environmental benefits of sustainable forestry and the importance of looking for the FSC logo when purchasing paper products.

*Certified sustainable sources: adhering to one of five global certification standards: Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Cerflor (Brazil) and CSA (Canada)
