NAVIGATING THE TREACHEROUS WATERS OF CORRUPTION IN ASIA”
The stringency of international anti-corruption laws coupled with aggressive extraterritorial enforcement present a significant challenge for businesses operating in Asia - a region where corruption is perceived to be rife and endemic.
Industry sectors which are characterised by high-value investment and significant government interaction and regulation, provide both opportunities and incentives for corruption. Apart from distorting the market and increasing the costs of doing business, corruption can also have significant consequences for the well-being of future generations from a development perspective, especially where decisions are required to be made with respect to the use and ownership of a country’s core resources and infrastructure.
In the face of such treacherous waters, how does one navigate the broad scope of the laws, the increasing levels of enforcement and the temptation to cut corners?
In this NBAS luncheon talk, Mr Wilson Ang, will address the following issues:
- Key applicable anti-corruption laws
- Corruption risks of doing business in Asia
- Practical steps to achieve anti-corruption compliance
Mr Wilson Ang heads up the regulatory compliance and investigations practice based in the dispute resolution team in Singapore. He specializes in advising corporations on business ethics and anti-corruption compliance programs, conducting anti-corruption due diligence reviews and handling internal investigations involving bribery, fraud, economic sanctions and financial services regulatory violations in the Asia Pacific region. Please register at www.nbas.org.sg by Friday 21 March 2014.
