NBAS Invitation to an Evening Talk 28 August 2013: “Crime & Punishment: A Cautionary Tale about Singapore Criminal Law”

“Crime & Punishment: A Cautionary Tale about Singapore Criminal Law”

An Evening Talk with Mr Josephus Tan, Associate Director at Patrick Tan LLC

Singapore is a peaceful place where people are expected to behave and follow the laws. Some may even wonder if Singapore has any crime at all. Sometimes the peacefulness and the lack of a visible police force can lead you to start thinking that one may take certain liberties which appear to be fairly “innocent” and which normally do not lead to sanctions in Europe for instance. But as we shall hear in this very interesting talk, conducted by famous Singapore criminal lawyer Josephus Tan, Singapore has a dark side. Furthermore, those who step over and are caught will normally experience that the criminal laws of Singapore are extremely strict and with severe sanctions attached. Take this rare opportunity to be educated about the fascinating and special criminal law system of Singapore and the sanctions that may be imposed if a crime is committed.

Josephus Tan is an Associate Director in the Patric Tan LLC. He specializes in criminal defense litigation and has been involved in defense work at all levels of the Singapore's courts including the Military Court of Appeal. Josephus obtained his LL.B. (Hons) at the University of Southampton.
