White paper addresses skilled talent shortage for hospitality industry in China

MIAMI (Jan. 7, 2014)- FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management (CSHTM) and its Institute for Hospitality & Tourism Education & Research (IHTER) released a white paper today titled Managing Growing Pains of China’s Relentless Hotel Development Pipeline. The paper provides the hospitality industry with ideas on what can be done to address the severe shortage of qualified and skilled talent in China for hotels entering the market, including professional coaching, conflict resolution and career ladder strategies at the workplace.

Authored by Simone Champagnie, executive director at IHTER; Danqing Liu, associate professor at CSHTM’s Marriott Tianjin China Program; and Christine Toguchi, managing director at MacroVision Network Pte Ltd and project consultant for IHTER, the paper explores the insight, ideas and pertinent questions arising from the intellectual exchange that took place at the Visionary Leaders Forum in Shanghai last June. Presented by Infor Hospitality, the forum brought together industry leaders from around China and Asia-Pacific who discussed leadership imperatives, inspiring change and new hotel openings, and gearing up for commercial readiness among other relevant topics.
