Press release -

Royal Selangor Recycles for Nature

Royal Selangor, in aid of the Malaysian Nature Society is celebrating one of the country's oldest heritage - its forests. The 126-year old pewter company will be holding a donation drive where the public can donate their old and unwanted pewter items to Royal Selangor.

Only pewter made by Royal Selangor will be accepted and melted to be made into new pewter pieces for a new collection, The Alam Collection, designed by two renowned Malaysian sculptors, Tengku Sabri Ibrahim and Zainal Abidin Musa.

One third of the sales from the new collection will go to The Malaysian Nature Society to aid their continuous efforts in habitat conservation and environmental education. The first 100 donors will receive a free 1-year membership with the Malaysian Nature Society and every donor will stand a chance to win a 3 day 2 night trip to the 130 million year old Belum Rainforest in a lucky draw.

Addressing the media at the press conference, Yong Yoon Li, General Manager of Royal Selangor International said, "We admire the work that Malaysian Nature Society is doing conserving our forests and wildlife and wanted to help them to their efforts."

"Many Royal Selangor items are treasured but there are some old items that you have no use for. So, why not put them to good use? Why not recycle them? Not many people are aware that pewter is actually recyclable and everyday at our factory, pewter swarf is collected and melted. We look forward to receiving old pewter items from our customers and to recycling them."

The Alam Collection will see a selection of wearables and figurines inspired by Malaysia's forests. For the very first time, Royal Selangor will be collaborating with sculptors Tengku Sabri Ibrahim and Zainal Abidin Musa. Commenting on their inspirations for the designs, Tengku Sabri said, "I drew inspiration from a particular walk into nature where I saw surreal creatures in my imagination", while Zainal Abidin Musa said, "I was inspired by the animals, plants and insects found in our forests."

The Alam Collection will be available in October at all Royal Selangor retail stores and online at www.royalselangor.com.
