The Coronavirus will change Airbnb rental forever

Will people want to go and travel? And let's look to short term vacation rental - the industry is definitely one of the hardest hit by the pandemic.

Will people want to go to restaurants? Will they even think, you know, international vacation is an appropriate thing? So, even once the government is saying these activities are OK, we can't expect the demand side to re-emerge overnight.

There are a few things, vacation and recreational trips, that I doubt will ever go back, I mean, there will still be vacation trips, but you know, less.

When it comes to hospitality and short term vacation rental it will take much longer to recover.

How to adapt?
Gone are the days when you’d meet your guest at the rental property, hand over the keys, and provide a walk through.

With so much involved, the reality is that after Corona you need to align your guest-hosting with the modern distance traveler´s journey, comfortable with no interactions if the check-in process is self serviced, and communication up front with you as the hosts or property manager is digital, seamless and responsive.

OK, so you understand that hosting are changing and that you must adapt to the new realities of how self-service automation need to work.

As a result, the hosting that we know today is changing big time in 2020 and beyond. It´s time for hosts and property managers to adjust the sails if they´re going to comply with the new realities.

Stop asking yourself if you want to go that route. It's no longer an option. For now, it's digital check in and key handover, or close down.

Because very likely the new normal is here to stay. And the quicker you adjust to that fact, the greater your home rental business's chance to survive, and possibly thrive.
