The smart way of dishwashing - Siemens smartStart makes dishwashing eco-friendly and cost-effective

Munich, Germany – The Siemens smartStart feature sets new standards in kitchen innovation, combining intelligent automation and sustainability to revolutionize dishwashing. The intelligent function allows users to automatically run their dishwasher at the most eco-friendly or cost-effective time without additional effort.

The Siemens smartStart feature adapts to individual energy needs and preferences. Whether you want to maximize the use of renewable energy, align with peak photovoltaic (PV) production, or take advantage of dynamic or peak/off-peak electricity tariffs, smartStart has you covered. After activating smartStart via the Siemens Home Appliances App, users can load their dishwasher and simply press the start button on the appliance. The dishwasher will then automatically start at the optimal time. If the recommended time does not fit the user’s schedule, they can adjust the time preferences or override the suggested start time.

Personalized energy optimization

Users have various options to optimize and take advantage of smartStart for smart dishwashing. Those focused on sustainability can select an eco-friendly mode in which the dishwasher starts when the share of renewable energy in the grid is at its highest. The data is updated daily based on calculations by Fraunhofer ISE’s Energy-Charts, using information from ENTSO-E and national statistical offices. For users interested in reducing energy costs, we provide them with multiple possibilities to use smartStart, including hourly electricity tariffs, peak/off-peak tariffs and soon integration with energy management partners.

The dynamic electricity tariff, also known as time-of-use tariff, is where the electricity prices vary by the hour. If this option is selected, smartStart will pick the cheapest hours of the day to run the dishwasher. These time recommendations are based on official Day-Ahead wholesale market prices from the Nord Pool power exchange, where Single Day-Ahead Coupling ensures uniform day-ahead prices across regions.

smartStart also supports peak and off-peak tariffs, allowing users to define when their electricity tariffs are low (off-peak) or when they generate their own energy through solar systems. In addition, integration with selected energy management partners adds further flexibility. At launch, these include Rabot Energy for dynamic tariffs, EcoFlow & EP Cube for various PV and energy storage solutions and more, as well as Clever PV, a cloud-based home energy management system.

Seamless integration with the Siemens Home Appliances App

Setting up smartStart is simple and intuitive through the Siemens Home Appliances App. In addition to enabling smartStart, the app provides software updates, maintenance reminders, and appliance status checks, helping to extend the appliance’s lifetime. The Siemens Home Appliances App integrates seamlessly with smart home systems, including Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing users to control their kitchen with voice commands, smartphones, or tablets.
