Sigrid Therapeutics Announces Publication of the SHINE Clinical Trial in The Lancet's eClinicalMedicine
Peer-reviewed publication marks a major scientific milestone for Sigrid Therapeutics and strengthens the foundation of its proprietary SiPore® technology platform.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 10, 2026 — Sigrid Therapeutics today announced the publication of the SHINE clinical trial in eClinicalMedicine, a peer-reviewed journal in The Lancet Discovery Science portfolio.
The publication represents the culmination of more than three years of clinical development and over fifteen years of scientific research behind SiPore®, Sigrid's proprietary technology platform for metabolic health. As the company's largest and most comprehensive clinical study to date, SHINE is an important scientific milestone and significantly strengthens the body of peer-reviewed evidence supporting the continued development of SiPore®.
"Publication in a Lancet journal is one of the most important milestones in Sigrid's history," said Professor Tore Bengtsson, Founder of Sigrid Therapeutics, Professor of Physiology at Stockholm University and senior author of the publication.
"It represents many years of research, engineering and clinical development, and provides independent peer-reviewed validation of the scientific concept that has guided our work from the very beginning."

A Complementary Approach to Lifestyle and Medicines
For decades, metabolic health has largely been addressed through lifestyle and pharmaceutical interventions that seek to change eating habits.
SiPore® is built on a different scientific principle. The technology is designed to work locally in the gastrointestinal tract during digestion by entrapping digestive enzymes involved in breaking down carbohydrates and fats. By acting before nutrients enter the bloodstream, Sigrid believes SiPore® has the potential to complement both lifestyle interventions and medical treatments.
"For decades, metabolic health has largely focused on changing what people eat or treating what happens after nutrients have entered the bloodstream," Bengtsson said. "Our research has explored a different question: what if we could reduce the impact of the meal itself? That idea has guided our work from the beginning."
A Stronger Scientific Foundation for the Next Stage of Growth
The publication of SHINE strengthens the scientific foundation supporting Sigrid's next phase of development.
The company will continue to focus on:
- Advancing the European CE marking process
- Expanding commercial activities in the United States
- Establishing strategic partnerships within metabolic health
- Building additional clinical evidence across multiple applications for SiPore®
About the SHINE Clinical Trial
SHINE was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre clinical trial evaluating SiPore21, a product based on Sigrid's proprietary SiPore® technology platform, in adults with overweight or obesity and prediabetes or early type 2 diabetes. The study enrolled 318 participants across 27 clinical centres in Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Results have been published in eClinicalMedicine, a peer-reviewed journal in The Lancet Discovery Science portfolio.
About SiPore®
SiPore® is Sigrid Therapeutics' proprietary technology platform based on precisely engineered mesoporous silica particles. The technology is designed to work locally in the gastrointestinal tract by entrapping digestive enzymes involved in the digestion of carbohydrates and fats. SiPore® does not enter the bloodstream and is being developed as a complementary approach to metabolic health.
