Sigrid Therapeutics - winner of Almi's pitch competition in connection with Almi's 10th anniversary
Stockholm, May 30, 2019. At Almi Invest's 10th anniversary on May 28 at Nalen in Stockholm, Sigrid's CEO and Co-Founder Sana Alajmovic won the jury and audience's favor in the Startup Pitch of the Year competition. Sigrid Therapeutics was the only life science company in strong competition with ten other hot startups from Almi Invest's portfolio.
The pitch competition was conducted in front of an independent, renowned jury consisting of Sophia Bendz at Atomico, Johan Brenner at Creandum, Christoffer Norman at Northzone, Linus Dagh at Inventure and Kerstin Cooley at Brightly Ventures. The jury selected two companies to advance to the finals. The final decision was made by the audience.
Sana Alajmovic comments: "My personal goal and aspiration is for Swedish life science to take more space on the Swedish technology scene. It is therefore incredibly exciting not only for Sigrid but also for the life science industry in general that we are being recognized and appreciated in this arena."
Nearly 300 people, mainly investors and entrepreneurs, attended the event where Jacob De Geer, founder of iZettle, Emil Eifrem, founder of the world-leading graph database company Neo4j, and Peter Halldin, founder of the multi-billion dollar company MIPS, were on the speaker list.
Sigrid has developed a new medical device that can prevent people at risk from developing type 2 diabetes. A second clinical study of the product is currently underway in Finland and Sweden, called STAR. The results of this study are expected in the third quarter of 2019.
