Teamwork makes the Dreamwork

“If you can have fun together, you can also work together”.

People are a herd of animals, it is said. So it is natural to join together to reach a common goal.

One of my favorite quotes is “Teamwork makes the Dreamwork” by John C. Maxwell. At least, this would seem to be true in working life, where it has been shown that working together and laughing reinforces the working atmosphere and maintains the positive outcome on the whole work community.

My solution (Smart Break) provides a good framework for making exercise fun. When assembled to a common movement, often spontaneous awakening of creativity is also often the case. The whole morning thinking problem, solves a solution as well as when the body gets little movement and the brain’s oxygen supply improves. The solution may also show the social bonding between employees. The amount of ideas that has come from brainstorming and going down rabbit holes to get to a solution at Raisoft is immense.

Just the other day I overheard three employees discussing during the exercise about how the kid’s shows have changed a bit from the generations. They kept mentioning TGIF programs vs disney programs and how much the younger employee missed out on some quality shows. This certain brainstorming session was gripping! Now I know how important it is to watch Steve Urkel in Family Matters and shows like Step by Step and Boy Meets World!

For the latter reason, the Smart Break application lacks background music. This is a well-known choice to maintain the possibility of a conversation between colleagues. Being present in the same space and moment. The good thing about the social aspect of this is to strengthen the employee’s bond in the workplace as well. Once you are comfortable enough to talk during the exercise it is easier to approach people around the office. And most of the time the conversations continue to the coffee break, and that is where everyone generally joins in on the discussions.

Yesterday there was talk of one of my dear good friends Lawrence partaking in a PITCH challenge where he would PITCH Smart Break(me) from the frozen sea. Huh! Really, that is a thing in Oulu where they cut a hole in the ice and you submerge your body and pitch your product to a panel of judges. I am flattered that he would do this for me. Unsuprisingly, I think he would be chillingly tremendous, he would crush it.

The idea that everyone was joining in on this adventure and speaking this act into existence is a bit troublesome. But my friend would do great because he is a company man. He would do it on the sole fact that he believes in this product and how it can help the corporate community. A coffee table is a great way to meet and enjoy each other’s company. What is a programmer’s favorite hangout place? Foo Bar. haha a little joke there!

Have a great week and remember to enjoy your breaks with a colleague!
