Steve Dalton awarded OBE

Steve has overall responsibility for the manufacturing facility that produces High Definition Broadcast and Professional camera systems for worldwide distribution. The factory is also the home to Sony’s main UK customer service centre.

Appointed Managing Director of the Sony UK Technology Centre in 2006, he has been a key player in transitioning the business from a high-volume, low-feature manufacturer to one producing low-volume, high-feature, high-skill and value-added products, in order to maintain the company’s competitive advantage.

Steve has spent his entire career with Sony, joining the corporation as a graduate in 1983, where he was appointed electrical test jig designer at the Bridgend facility. He moved to Pencoed when the site first opened in 1992, and supported the start-up of the new TV manufacturing facility.

Steve held responsibility for the manufacturing process of all new TV products at Pencoed, as a General Manager. He led the introduction of digital set-top receiver production and, in 1999/2000, he managed the introduction of broadcast and professional camera manufacturing for worldwide distribution.

In 2003 he was appointed Director of Operational Management, his main role covering the Bridgend and Pencoed sites, overseeing the diversification of the business to ensure sustainability.

Steve is a member of the Institute of Directors and has recently been appointed Chartered Director. He is governor at the Wales Quality Centre, a member of the Welsh Electronics Forum Council and a Governor at Pencoed Primary School. Steve is married with two children.
