TIPA awards 2013: Triple success for Sony

The prestigious Technical Image Press Association has once again recognised Sony’s innovation in the digital imaging industry.

BEST PREMIUM CAMERA: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1

The world’s first compact camera to offers users a 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor has been recognised as the best premium camera available. Featuring a `Carl Zeiss Sonnar` prime lens with f2.0 35mm fixed focal lengths and T* coating, every lens element has been adjusted to perfectly match the full frame sensor design. Delivering stunning image quality with full manual controls, ISO 50 to 25,600 capability (and expanded range of ISO 102,400 with a special Multi-Frame Noise Reduction feature) the camera can record Full HD movies, offers numerous shooting modes, including Auto HDR, and has a bright, 1.22 million dot LCD monitor. BEST CSC EXPERT LENS: Sony E-mount 10-18mm f/4 OSS

The compact system camera market continues to show encouraging growth and Sony E-mount enthusiasts have an ever-increasing range of lenses to choose from to capture their shots. The Sony 10-18mm zoom lens offers users constant aperture of f/4 throughout its entire range, an equivalent focal length of 15-27mm. This lightweight (8 oz, 225 gms) lens is constructed of 10 elements in 8 groups and contains 3 aspherical elements and an optical system with Super Extra-low dispersion glass for near elimination of chromatic aberrations, even at the widest focal length setting. Optical Steady Shot image stabilisation adds significant versatility to this lens and maximises its impressive performance when shooting both stills and video, even in low light situations. BEST VIDEOCAMERA: Sony NEX-VG900

Further recognising Sony’s full frame expertise, the NEX-VG900 has been judged to be the best video camera. Utilising a full-frame, 24.3MP Exmor HD CMOS sensor, the NEX-VG900 can record in Full HD 50p, 50i, 25p and 24p plus offers uncompressed video via HDMI out. Capable of accepting both Sony E-mount and A-mount lenses (the latter via an LA-EA3 adapter) the VG900 has an impressive XGA OLED electronic viewfinder (2359k dots) that displays camera adjustments in real time. An integrated Quad Capsule Spatial Array 5.1 channel surround microphone captures brilliant sound and the optional XLR adapter facilitates the use of professional microphones.
