Spiri unveils next generation carpooling powered by their radical electric vehicle. All users can drive for free.

The Danish tech company, Spiri, is unveiling a revolutionary carpooling service powered by the company's own radical electric vehicle. Spiri allows people to drive the vehicle for free or be passengers at public transport prices.

Drive for free or be a passenger at public transport prices
The company is now taking reservations to drive Spiri for free when it launches. Users can sign up on a first-come, first-served basis on www.spiri.io from today. The first five launch countries are the UK, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden with the first city launch in 2017.

Spiri takes the best from carpooling and ridesharing, combining it into a service that is affordable, convenient, and helps clean up our cities. We call it on-demand carpooling. Spiri co-founder and board member Søren Halskov Nissen says: “Car ownership is rapidly proving to be an outdated concept. Cars sit unused 95% of the time and come with high ownership costs. Spiri is a brand new on-demand carpooling service making car ownership redundant. If you want free transport get behind the wheel. As long as you pick people up going the same way as you it’s completely free. If you want more convenience, then get in the backseat at the price of a bus ticket. Spiri eliminates the need to ever own a car again.”

The first Spiri prototype vehicle will be revealed at the Danish tech conference TechBBQ in Copenhagen on September 20, 2016.

An electric vehicle built for urban passenger transport
The majority of cars we own today are too big, petrol powered, and not designed for low-speed of city driving. Spiri completely redefines the convenient urban vehicle for transporting people within cities. With the extensive use of lightweight materials, Spiri breaks the record for electric vehicle efficiency. It consumes an incredible 50% less energy than the most efficient electric cars on the road today.

Peter Carlsson, former VP of supply chain at Tesla and board member at Spiri says: “The typical car used for urban mobility is a jack of all trades, master of none. You don’t need an oversized five-seater car that can go 160 km/h for city transport. The Spiri is an ultra-light electric vehicle, specifically built for passenger transport in cities, while still having more legroom than a Mercedes S class limousine.
