Record-Breaking Season Start for Stockholms Auktionsverk Following the Acquisition of Uppsala Auktionskammare

The Signature Sale gave Stockholms Auktionsverk a resounding kick-off to the autumn auction season. Driven by strong Swedish bidding and significant international interest, particularly from the United States, the auction surpassed its previous record by more than 30 percent on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday’s Signature Sale marked the beginning of a new era for the Swedish auction market. It was not only the season premiere but also the first live auction held by Stockholms Auktionsverk following this summer’s historic acquisition of Uppsala Auktionskammare.

“What a tremendous show of strength. After nearly 300 years of competition, our auction houses have come together in a very short time, and we are proud to immediately deliver a new record for The Signature Sale to our clients. Once again, Stockholms Auktionsverk demonstrates that we are a premier marketplace in Sweden for buying and selling fine art and design — while also showcasing our ability to engage the global market,” says Cecilia Gave, CEO of Stockholms Auktionsverk.

International clients accounted for just over 35 percent of total sales. Winning bids came from 21 different countries — with the United States leading outside Sweden, followed by Denmark, Germany, and Belgium.

In total, final prices in The Signature Sale landed nearly 20 percent above estimates, with a sell-through rate of more than 85 percent — well above the average for both Stockholms Auktionsverk and Uppsala Auktionskammare.

“The momentum is strong for Stockholms Auktionsverk and our business. The low rate of unsold lots is particularly noteworthy given that The Signature Sale is our most eclectic live auction — featuring works both for the seasoned collector and for those seeking something truly unique,” says Cecilia Gave.
