Balance with GamFratesi – Guest of Honour 2014

Balance with GamFratesi Guest of Honour 2014

The Danish-Italian design studio GamFratesi – this year’s Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, has chosen to call its lounge at the entrance hall of Stockholmsmässan “Balance”. Primarily with textile objects they create an installation to remind us of man's search for balance.

“For us, as for most people, each day is a struggle to find balance in life. The exhibition we will create at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is meant to remind us of that. At the same time, our installation emphasizes the movement of the fair’s visitors through the space of the exhibition. Elements hung from the ceiling of the enormous entrance hall, dividing it into smaller, more intimate lounge areas. The exhibition combines textiles and metal elements. In addition to being sculptures and room dividers, the elements are also sound absorbers – a feature which is invaluable in such a large space”, says Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi.

GamFratesi Design Studio was established in 2006, and consists of Stine Gam, born in Denmark in 1975, and Enrico Fratesi, born in 1978 in Italy. Stine Gam has a Master’s Degree in Furniture Design from the Aarhus School of Architecture. Enrico Fratesi studied architecture at the University of Florence and has a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from the University of Ferrara.

GamFratesi embodies the fusion of Danish and Italian design. The Danish design tradition of attention to detail and minimalism is blended with quirkiness and the desire to tell a story. Contrasts frequently act as the key to GamFratesi’s inspiration, with their design flowing from everyday situations in their native cultures, and an authentic fusion of technology, poetry and tradition.

While the design studio is based in Copenhagen, the designers travel constantly between Italy and Denmark as they research and work on new projects. GamFratesi is a regular exhibitor at international shows, including Milan, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Cologne, New York, Shanghai, London and Berlin. GamFratesi collaborates with numerous international companies including Swedese, Ligne Roset, Gubi, Fontana Arte, Lightyears, Fredericia, Casamania, Galerie Maria Wettergren and One Nordic.

Previous Guests of Honour have been: Inga Sempé, Patricia Urquiola, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Naoto Fukasawa, Konstantin Grcic, Giulio Cappellini, Ineke Hans, Paul Smith, Arik Levy and Oki Sato/Nendo.
