Bark Sweden Wins Formex Design Talents
Today, Frida and Richard Lilliestråle, founders and owners of Bark Sweden, were awarded the “Best in Show” Design Talents award at Formex. Bark Sweden creates one-of-a-kind cell phone cases from recycled Swedish timber at a factory in Spånga. Design Talents is a competition for up-and-coming Swedish and international designers, who get the chance to showcase their products at Formex. This year, 20 talented new designers will be exhibiting their work in the Design Talents stands at the fair.
Married couple Frida and Richard Lilliestråle began creating wooden cell phone cases in 2020. Production from a piece of wood to finished case takes place in Richard’s father’s factory in Spånga. Each shell is machined from solid wood using milling technology, with reinforced edges of crossed timber. These cell phone cases are made of 100 percent Swedish hardwood. Each case is unique and naturally differs between different types of wood, patterns and colors. Frida and Richard with Bark Sweden have also been shortlisted in the Formex Sustainability Award competition.

Design Talents is one of Formex’s most dynamic and exciting features. Up-and-coming designers from both Sweden and abroad can apply for a space at Design Talents, giving them the opportunity to display their products to buyers, producers and the media. The “Best in Show” award was established by Formex and is presented twice a year.
