Eclectic Maximalism Takes Over the Formex Entrance Hall Exhibition

When Formex opens its doors on August 26, visitors will be met by a knockout of color, shape, and pattern. A vibrant experience has been created in the entrance hall, with maximalism in focus, curated by fashion designer Maxjenny Forslund and trend expert Jan Rundgren. Together, the duo has crafted a visionary exhibition that redefines our perception of Scandinavian design.

In a world where minimalism often dominates the design scene, Maxjenny and Jan want to show a different path — one where technology, color, expression, and sustainability coexist. The exhibition is inspired by three powerful design trends: Awakening, Escapism, and Maximalism.

“The physical meeting place remains incredibly important. In addition to being a hub for business, knowledge, and inspiration, we aim to foster networking and collaboration. That’s why it feels especially meaningful to bring together fashion and interior design — and two creatives who have never worked together before but will now merge their ideas and spirits to elevate this year's entrance exhibition to a ‘wow’ dimension,” says Sonja Björk Ebert, Project Manager at Formex.

Eclectic Maximalism – A Landscape of Living Spaces

The exhibition will be designed as a landscape of living spaces — open areas filled with sculptural furniture, hand-printed wallpaper, custom-designed rugs, recycled flooring, and elements of AI and technology. It’s a space where the design of the future takes shape at the intersection of art, innovation, and sustainable functionality. With a strong focus on sustainability, leftover and recycled materials will be given new life.

“I’ve always pushed the boundaries of what Scandinavian design can be. To me, maximalism is an expression of soul, identity, and creativity. For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to break away from minimalism and create a space for the bold, the creative, and the unapologetic. At Formex, I have the possibility to showcase the boundless, colorful maximalism I stand for,” says Maxjenny Forslund.

The entrance exhibition Eclectic Maximalism marks a powerful start to Formex Autumn 2025 — an invitation to a new design conversation where function meets color and tradition.

“We want to create an exhibition that not only inspires but challenges — where design becomes an experience, an energy, a place. We want to celebrate the bold and the creative,” says Jan Rundgren.

Formex takes place at Stockholmsmässan on August 26–28, 2025, bringing together national and international buyers, designers, producers, stylists, and media. It’s the go-to place for inspiration, business, trend spotting, and unexpected encounters — and this year, for an eclectic, maximalist explosion of color and form.
