GastroNord devotes special day to the industry’s future

The hot café and restaurant sector is facing a shortage of skilled, knowledgeable staff. To inspire and develop the industry's future – students – the GastroNord food and beverage exhibition will put special focus on restaurant trainees on Friday, May 9.

Things are going well for the café and restaurant sector, but to be able to grow further, the availability of skilled and knowledgeable staff must be addressed. Today, it is difficult to recruit young people and a lack of trained personnel is one of the industry's biggest problems. Another important aspect is to get women to become and stay on as chefs.

Therefore on Friday, May 9 GastroNord will place special focus on students in the last year of high school programs in restaurant and food preparation.

“It is important that we take care of the next generation, we want to inspire students and have them meet future employers and vice versa. Among other things, we are planning a tour so they can get acquainted with industry representatives”, says Daniel Fritzdorf, event manager for GastroNord and Vinordic.

The show is also planning seminars and special programs, for example dedicated information provided by the organization Årets kock (Chef of the year), and moreover, the winner of the Chef Student of the Year will be announced. This is a competition for all Chef students in their third grade in high school. In the final, which takes place at the show on Friday, the six finalists will have two and a half hours to prepare their dish and then present it to a jury of some of the country's most renowned chefs, including Jury President Stefano Catenacci of Operakällaren.

GastroNord will take place May 6–9 at Stockholmsmässan, concurrently with the beverage event Vinordic and Bocuse d´Or Europe – European Chefs’ Championship, Europe’s most prestigious gastronomic event.

GastroNord and Vinordic are Northern Europe's largest trade fairs for hotels, restaurants, catering and fast food. The fairs are arranged every second year at Stockholmsmässan.
