Greenhouse 2013 takes its inspiration from the garden

Once again the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2013 will include an opportunity for young designers to exhibit their work to manufacturers and visitors from the furniture and lighting industry, as well as the general public, as part of the Greenhouse exhibition, which this year will be the work of the Note Design Studio.

The goal for designers who exhibit is to establish contact with manufacturers and get the chance to showcase their designs. And it’s always equally exciting for manufacturers and a curious general public to discover the stars of tomorrow. Greenhouse’s setting in the exhibition hall is extremely important: it should be a place to gather and a hotbed for new knowledge, new ideas and new projects.

“We were thrilled when we were asked to create Greenhouse 2013! We immediately felt we wanted to infuse the concept with a sense of youth, vitality and openness, where new ideas are given space to be noticed and begin to grow. We took our inspiration from baroque gardens with their iconic style of blocks, parterres and spatialities. We see Greenhouse as the Fair’s oasis; a place that allows more freedom of design and thought,” explainsJohannes Carlströmfrom Note.

Note is a Stockholm-based design studio that looks at what is unique in every project and emphasizes that. They transform non-material values into tactile objects and spaces. Note works within the fields of architecture, product design and design strategy for Swedish and international companies, such as Mitab, Zero, Abici-Italia, La Chance and Zilenzio – and can now add Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair to that list.

“We want Greenhouse to increase communication between designers, visitors and manufacturers to allow discussions, ideas and meetings to flow freely,”Johannes Carlströmsays.

Designers and design colleges from all over the world are welcome to submit applications to Greenhouse. The products they submit must not be linked to any particular manufacturer and should not have been exhibited previously. The final selection will be made by a jury consisting of well-known names. The deadline for Greenhouse 2013 applications is 21 September 2012. The Jury consists of TAF architecture & design studio architect Gabriella Gustafson, interior and experimental designer Anna von Schewen, interior and furniture designer Matti Klenell and design entrepreneur David Carlsson.

“As a member of the jury, I’m looking for someone whose design is not only good but can make a difference on multiple levels. Design that has a humanistic perspective, is esthetically pleasing and which tells a believable story,” explains design entrepreneur and jury member David Carlsson.

Greenhouse will also include the premiere of traveling exhibition UNG Svensk Form [Young Swedish Design] which is a competition run by Svensk Form [Swedish Society of Crafts and Design] in association with Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. This is a jury-selected traveling exhibition that will continue on a Swedish and international tour after its premiere at the fair.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will take place at Stockholmsmässan 5-9 February 2013.
