Highlights at this fall’s Formex

In total almost 900 exhibitors will gather in an area of roughly 31,000sq.m. The trend theme for this fall is Nordic Essence, which focuses on a single cohesive idea that encompasses everything from building facades to everyday items and interior design details. Inspiration for the theme comes from our nature and immediate surroundings in the Nordic region.

Several highlights at this fall’s fair:

The House Cat and The House Cat Festival

Architect firm Codesign creates this fall’s theme in an architectural exhibition. Hemslöjden will be located next to the exhibition with its store, Svensk Slöjd, and its publisher, Hemslöjdens förlag, which will be accompanied by around ten craftsmen. The exhibition will be buzzing with activity as the craftsmen exhibit and create interior design items onsite everyday.

“We want to protect design that lasts, so it feels natural to turn to woodwork and craftsmanship for inspiration for our assignment to interpret Formex’s theme, Nordic Essence. We want to have both objects and technicians on display in our exhibition, The House Cat, which will have an exhibition area and an activity area that we have opted to call “The House Cat Festival”. It is a lot of fun to have experts like Svensk Slöjd and Hemslöjdens förlag by our side to achieve the feel we are striving for in the exhibition,” says Sanna Gebeyehu from Codesign.

Formex Nova – Nordic Designer of the Year

On August 19, the winner of the design award, Formex Nova – Nordic Designer of the Year, will be announced. The award goes to a young designer or design team active in the Nordic region, and the winner is selected by an expert jury. The nominees for 2015 are Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir/Iceland, Thórunn Árnadóttir/Iceland, Erik Olovsson & Kyuhyung Cho/Sweden, Masayoshi Oya/Sweden and Rosa Tolnov Clausen/Denmark. The award ceremony will be held in the evening and the event has been arranged in cooperation with Trendgruppen PR. The designs of the nominees are presented in an exhibition at the fair. You can also see a smaller exhibition of the nominees products at NK Table- & Kitchenware during Formex.

Trend Restaurant Nordic Essence – organic and local

The Nordic theme is the common thread that can be found in Formex’s trend restaurant. Mässrestauranger’s chef, Tomas Andreasson, created the menu and guests may choose from a delicious selection of entrées and various side dishes. Everything is organic and made with local produce. The restaurant is based around the idea, “from the ground to the table’.

“Being able to combine food and inspiration in the same area is particularly fun give that interest in food is very strong and it is a subject that has a lot of followers,” says designer Jan Rundgren, who designed the trend restaurant in Hall B. “I have opted to primarily display food-related trends and the set table, which has really grown in recent years.”

Premier for Formex’s Pop-up Shop

For the first time ever, visitors have the chance to purchase selected items at the fair. There has been considerable demand for being able to shop at the fair and Formex has now joined forces with Trendstefan to open a temporary store that offers the best new products and interior design details from the fair. Everything gathered in one place and naturally unveiled the same week.

Design students selected by Formex

Trend expert Stefan Nilsson, on behalf of Formex for the fifth time, has selected twelve of his favorites from among the recent design graduates from the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Beckmans College of Design, Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies, Steneby and other schools. The students’ work includes the design for the set table, accessories for the home and a long list of other innovative objects that brighten our day.
