Press release -

Restaurant Fager/Myllymäki c/o the Design Bar

At Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, 4 - 8 February 2014, the Design Bar is being transformed into a top-class restaurant, thanks to the combined talents of designer Jens Fager and chef Tommy Myllymäki, Sweden’s representative at the prestigious culinary competition Bocuse d’Or Europe 2014.

The Design Bar traditionally gives a Nordic designer or design team the chance to show the world what they can do. The new concept for the Design Bar at the next fair will see the food sharing center stage with the design.

“We wanted to try something new. Though food has always been available at the Design Bar, which is a mix of exhibition and bar, this time the food will be sharing the spotlight with the design,” explains Cecilia Nyberg, Event Manager for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair.

Restaurant Fager/Myllymäki’s theme is classic Swedish dishes, with produce sourced from forests, seas, lakes or mountains. The theme will also influence restaurant design.

“The interior design ideas originate in the kitchen’s frying pans or saucepans. The impact the food has on the interior design is something I want to convey and enhance out in the dining area,” says Jens Fager.

Just as the food is based on Swedish produce, the materials will be selected from a Swedish perspective. Interior design and food interact at multiple levels. There will be simplicity in both food and interior design, but with a highly refined elegance. The food should appeal to international visitors and Swedish visitors alike.

“We want our visitors, especially international visitors, to experience classic Swedish dishes in a modern interpretation. We’ll be serving smaller portions to allow you to sample a greater variety,” explains Tommy Myllymäki.

Previous Design Bars have been the work of Marge Arkitekter AB, the Front design team, design duo BrobergRidderstråle, the Save our Souls duo, the Camp Site design collective, Jonas Wagell, Katrin Greiling, Lina Nordqvist and Daniel Rybakken. The Design Bar has been in its current location next to the VIP lounge by Hall A/East entrance since 2010.
