Shades of blue in Young Designers Café

Shades of blue in Young Designers Café

This spring’s Young Designers Café at Formex will be a creative meeting place for shades of blue, designed by Cecilia Dreyfert. This is the eighth successive time a young Swedish designer will be responsible for creating Young Designers Café, which also incorporates the Young Designers, Next Step zone and a stage area.

Cecilia Dreyfert was born in 1979 and is involved in product design, interior design and visual communication. Her artistic idiom is characterised by poetry, thoughts and imagination. She has participated in a number of exhibitions and been awarded several scholarships, including the Kosta Boda Scholarship for students studying Product Design at Beckmans, and Elle Interiör’s design scholarship. She attracted particular attention for the product Time Present.

“My vision for Young Designers Café and the Mood Indigo theme is to add in a breathing space in the huge exhibition hall, a creative meeting place for shades of blue. I have been inspired by jazz, which has that blue, creative melancholy. Welcome to Young Designers Café - You ain’t been blue, till you’ve had that Mood Indigo,” says Cecilia Dreyfert.

For café Mood Indigo, Cecilia Dreyfert has chosen to use the ellipse, which is both encircling and open in form. In order to create a sense of space she is working with textiles and hangings, which provide associations with both the theatrical stage and the home and at the same time have a muffling effect on noise from the exhibition hall. The music in its abstract form is there as a source of inspiration and a sounding board. The Indigo colour is a recurring element in furniture and textiles.

Other designers who have designed Young Designers Café (formerly called Young Design Lounge) in the past include Sebastian Kjersén, My Little Drama, Lisa Bengtsson, Jarl Ferneus and Fuldesign, Karin Robling and Simon Key Bertman.

The next Formex will take place on 19-22 January 2012 at Stockholmsmässan. Formex is the meeting place for news, business opportunities, trends, knowledge and inspiration. The exhibition takes place twice a year, attracting 850 exhibitors, 25,000 trade visitors and 850 media representatives.
