Snøhetta named Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2026
As Stockholm Furniture Fair celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026, the fair looks both backward and forward. The theme Future Past highlights Scandinavian design heritage and shows how a more profound commitment to sustainability, innovation, and creative courage shapes tomorrow's design. This year's Guest of Honour is the pioneering architecture and design studio Snøhetta.
Stockholm Furniture Fair is proud to present Snøhetta as its 2026 Guest of Honour – the internationally acclaimed architecture and design studio that, for over three decades, has operated where tradition meets renewal. With an interdisciplinary approach and a strong ethical commitment to social and ecological sustainability, Snøhetta has consistently demonstrated why it is one of the most influential voices in contemporary architecture and design.
The studio’s work spans architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, graphic and digital design, product design, and art. Their journey began with the groundbreaking Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt and continued with iconic buildings such as the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet.
Through initiatives like Powerhouse, Snøhetta has led the way in climate-positive architecture, aiming for all projects to be carbon-neutral by 2029. The studio has a wide range of future-oriented efforts spanning all disciplines, such as the Svalbard Global Seed Vault – a vital initiative to safeguard the planet's biodiversity, an award-winning website that challenged the norms of digital design to reduce our online carbon footprint, and the acclaimed Flyt project, a permeable paving system created to meet current and future water management challenges in urban environments. Snøhetta strives to use its multidisciplinary knowledge to understand each project's needs and context better and thus positively impact the future.
“There is no single path forward for the creative industries—but Snøhetta’s path is undoubtedly one of the most exciting. By looking back without falling into nostalgia, they integrate history into a forward-looking vision – driven by creative courage, a deep contextual understanding, and a strong focus on sustainability. They do this across disciplines, through communication and innovative technologies. It may not be the only way forward, but it is an incredibly inspiring one,” says director Daniel Heckscher.
At Stockholm Furniture Fair 2026, Snøhetta will use the accumulated knowledge of the studio’s past to explore a space for the future.
“It’s a real honour to be invited as Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture Fair’s 75th anniversary. We have deep respect for this platform and the many voices that have shaped it over the years. For us, it’s an opportunity to listen as much as to share – to reflect on our journey so far, and to contribute to an ongoing conversation about how design can serve both people and planet in the years ahead”, says Marius Myking, Director of Product Design at Snøhetta.
Stockholm Furniture Fair takes place February 3–7, 2026 at Stockholmsmässan.
