Stockholm Design Week - highlights not to be missed

With more than 100 furniture brands, design studios, shops and museums ready to open their doors on February 6, Stockholm Design Week will be a buzzing event that engage the whole city. Organised by Stockholm Furniture fair, the week attracts a wide range of participants, from design and interior brands to restaurants, galleries, museums and department stores. Among them are brands such as Artek, Frama, Carl Hansen and Kvadrat as well as Gärsnäs, Moooi, Kvänum, Hay and Fogia. There are also independent design studios opening their doors to the public, such as Axel Wannberg, Note design studio, Folkform and Form us with Love. The official partner for Stockholm design week this February is Nordiska Galleriet Group.

Several museums, institutes and retailers offer a dedicated design week schedule. The Hallwyl Museum showcases the exhibition Knowing the ropes, an artistic project on rope production, and the Italian institute opens Buone Nuove – Women Changing Architecture by the Italian designer Matilde Cassini. The auction house Bukowskis showcases Fundaments, an installation by TAF architects with 27 bespoke pedestals, which will go on auction at the end of the design week. The department store NK reach out to design enthusiast with several design week exhibitions, including Made in Sweden highlighting the benefits of local production.The dedicated design week app provides a listing with all the daily activities.

– We want everyone with an interest in design to download the app and participate this week. Our aim is to get the whole city involved in design, professionals and design enthusiasts alike, says Hanna Nova Beatrice, Project Area Manager for Stockholm Design Week and Stockholm Furniture Fair.

Stockholm Design Week highlights a selection from the SDW app

Frank by Folkform - Swedish design studio Folkform interpret the heritage brand Svenskt Tenn and introduce a series of new lighting.

The Studio at Gallery Sebastian Schildt - Swedish lighting manufacturer Atelje lyktan reintroduce some carefully selected eighties classics by Lars Bessfelt.

Fundaments at Bukowskis - TAF architects pays tribute to the pedestal with bespoke designs that will be auctioned out at the end of the week.

Persona - the fine dining restaurant Persona has invited designer Erik Bratsberg with friends to use the space as a gallery for artisan pieces and small scale design.

Konstnärsbaren - the classic bar and restaurant KB temporarily replace their 1931 chairs with the new Frama Bracket chairs launching during design week. In the same building Dusty Deco showcases new launches in an inspiring “dusty deco universe.”

Made in Sweden - department store NK has a few exhibitions coinciding with design week, including Made in Sweden, highlighting the benefits of local production, and Malmstens.

Lifestyle Embrace - artist and designer Finn Ahlgren opens an exhibition built around his idea about the aesthetic shortcomings of things.

Tallum - the new Swedish brand Tallum introduce furniture by legendary modernist architects Sigurd Lewerentz and Gunnar Asplund on the market.

Design Night - on February 8 selected shops invite their customers to an inspiring evening event, including Konsthantverkarna, with the exhibition Apparatum by the audiovisual artist and woodworker Love Hultén.

Fogia - launching new work by Andreas Engesvik, Inga Sempé and Björn Dahlström and the merge between the brands Articles and Fogia, plus a showcase of artists.

Public Service Gallery - the new gallery in town show Symphony Hour with work by artist Oliver Sundqvist. Situated in a former bank, the gallery is designed by Halleroed.

Gnilmyd kcab x Artilleriet - an installation at gallery Steinslander Berliner with new work by avantgarde fashion designer Ann-Sofie back and Hanna Hansdotter .

Misschiefs - a method and platform to empower womxn artists - has moved to a new multileveled location with open art studios, a showroom and a new gallery space. Collectible design exhibition with Ellen Hedin, Lotta Lampa, Linea Matei, Anna Gudmundsdottir and Josefin Eklund.

Designgalleriet - pop up exhibition Tradcore & Luminary Lollipops, with three Swedish designers; Sami Kallio, Matilda Hunyadi, Daniel Enoksson.
