Stockholm Furniture Fair returns 2027 – reimagined and renewed

To meet future demands and ensure the long-term development of the platform in line with market needs, Stockholmsmässan and Stockholm Furniture Fair aligning in a strong joint initiative. In close consultation with the Swedish furniture industry and its trade association TMF, The Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry, it has been decided that the fair will not take place in February 2026. Instead, efforts will be directed toward a relaunch in 2027.

Stockholm Furniture Fair is set to reinforce its position as the leading business and meeting place for Scandinavian design and architecture – a platform where the industry engages with knowledge and innovation. This strategic reset has been made possible thanks to the continued ownership of the City of Stockholm and the new strategic direction guiding Stockholmsmässan.

In order to create an even stronger and more future-oriented platform, we are now choosing to concentrate our resources on 2027, with sustainability and innovation remaining at the core of our vision. This represents an important step in our ambition, together with the industry, to further develop the business, the product, and the overall experience, says Chicie Lindgren, Business Area Manager, Stockholm Design Events.

Under the new strategic framework of Stockholmsmässan, Stockholm Furniture Fair and Stockholm Design Week will remain priority focus areas. From 2027 onwards, the Stockholm Furniture Fair will be held biennially. This new approach also creates opportunities to build a broader platform over time – with activities and initiatives taking place between editions of the fair.

Aligned with industry needs

The decision has been taken in consultation with TMF, The Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry and representatives from the Swedish furniture industry. A key consideration has been to align the fair’s schedule with the industry’s development cycles and the international trade fair calendar, thereby creating stronger conditions for sustainable long-term growth.

We believe that a relaunch of the Stockholm Furniture Fair is an exciting step forward. The industry is motivated to work closely with the fair’s team, and we see significant potential in further developing this key meeting platform, says Cecilia Ask Engström, Director of Industry and Policy at TMF.

Stockholm Design Week

Stockholm Design Week will be developed in parallel with the Stockholm Furniture Fair and will therefore not take place in February 2026. The ambition is to create an inspiring and relevant platform that reflects the evolving needs of the industry while strengthening Stockholm’s role as an international design destination.

– We look forward to shaping these events together with the industry and its representatives, as we take on the important work ahead, says Chicie Lindgren.

Meanwhile, program development is underway in Älvsjö to further evolve the area. Urban development will not begin before 2034, which ensures that operations will continue in Älvsjö at least until 2035. This timeframe provides valuable scope both to develop Stockholmsmässan in accordance with its new strategic direction and to secure a long-term solution for its location.
