Together in the Design Bar

Together in the Design Bar

For the eighth year in a row, a Swedish designer or group will be creating the Design Bar at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. This time the commission goes to designer Lina Nordqvist. The focus will be meetings and the basic forms of circles and squares.

Lina Nordqvist will be creating the Design Bar and VIP lounge based on the concept of how people interact in an environment created solely from simple basic shapes, an environment that is accessible and inviting and at the same time symbolic in its square and circular design.

"What I primarily want to work on in my design is how visitors interact at the venue. They don't necessarily need to sit or move around from place to place, they can share the space there is. A round table indicates, for example, that everyone round the table is equally worthy and welcome. There is a symbolic value to the round form," believes Lina Nordqvist.

Lina Nordqvist works as a designer, mainly focusing on furniture and exhibition design. She has a background as a set designer in the Scandinavian film industry and holds a degree from Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm. In 2009, Lina won the Accent on Design Award in New York, and in 2010 she received ELLE Decoration's design award for Chair of the Year. This year LND presented a new furniture collection at Greenhouse at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, and also at Salone Satellite in Milan in April.

The purpose of the Design Bar, which is a combined exhibition and bar, is to highlight a Swedish designer or group. On previous occasions the bar has been designed by architectural practice Marge, design group Front, design duo BrobergRidderstråle, duo Save our Souls, design collective Camp Site, Jonas Wagell, and Katrin Greiling. Since 2010, the Design Bar is now sharing space with the VIP Lounge in the newly-constructed section of Hall A/East entrance.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will take place on February 7-11, 2012.
